Dutch Still Life Drawing Workshop

Thursday 2nd April 2020 · 7-9pm

Join us for a relaxed evening of drawing inspired by the flower paintings of the Dutch Golden Age. This informal workshop will be run by Macclesfield artists Leigh Jennings and Dick Vincent in collaboration with local floral designer Laura Taylor of Green Earth Flowers.

The evening will start with a brief introduction to the meaning behind the flowers and objects depicted in the extravagant Dutch flower paintings of the 17th and 18th centuries. These artworks have had a huge influence on current trends in floral design, and Laura will be recreating a fabulous Dutch-style arrangement of fresh flowers as the centrepiece for the evening’s still life display.

Leigh and Dick will begin by teaching some warm-up exercises and how best to approach the large still life, with aims to create a finished piece at the end of the evening.

Refreshments on arrival will be offered with a selection of materials also provided, but please do bring your own sketchbooks and pens/pencils etc if you wish.

This is a relaxed workshop where all skill levels are welcomed. Sharing their love of contemporary floristry alongside simple drawing techniques, the team will be sat amongst the group joining in.

Dick Vincent is an illustrator and artist respectively. He has exhibited and sold his original work around the world, specialising in landscape compositions and locally inspired paintings with influences taken from pop culture and folklore.

Leigh Jennings is an embroidery artist and illustrator. She has experience in teaching workshops both in drawing and embroidery. Leigh specialises in embroideries inspired by nature, topical quote wall art and humorous illustrations.

Laura Taylor is a floral designer specialising in flowers for weddings and events. She also teaches seasonal floral design workshops for amateurs and professionals at her studio in Macclesfield.
